A little painting that has been trapped in my brain for years and years, and I finally decided to let the poor thing out. I've always been inspired by the beauty of nature, and in the fall season the trees in my neighborhood are all stunning. My favourite in the fall is the Ash tree, which looks like it's lit from within with it's leaves being yellow underneath and red/purple in the tops. I didn't quite get across the striking beauty of these deciduous trees, but it was a good interpretation.

This was also an exercise in NOT blending like mad with my paint. I used thick paint and just let the brush strokes be as they were, forming shapes with the colour. It's a really different look, I like it. Usually I take forever, using this glazes of paint to build up colour. That can look good too, but I need to loosen up a little. ^^

This painting is TINY, about 3" X 3" on a piece of scrap mat board. And here is a detail image of Wolfy (the doggy because it looks really cool close up: [link]

Classic. I could see this sewn on something - in fact I thought it WAS sewn at first glance! I love the heat in it and the composition is perfect :3

Well, I for one, can think of nothing better than discovering that I've suddenly become a cabal of 6000+ cannibalistic feminist wolves.

Did you have a colored peice of mat board? Or did you paint the background blue while painting Wolfy and the tree? Oooor did you photoshop it? :)

Yep, I had a piece of coloured mat board, so no photoshop or background paint needed! I have a while ton of scrap board from my summer job of various colours I sometimes use.

Mat board is the stuff that you see around framed pictures that isn't the frame itself. it's like, a pseudo frame to hold the picture away from the glass, make it look good and protect it a little. Like the big white and little red border around this picture: [link]
