A long over due commission for a pet portrait card! We decided to do this one in watercolor now that I have good paints and paper, but I'm still not ready to take watercolor commissions. I feel like I need to become more familiar with the medium before that. Watercolor once was my primary medium, back in my earliest days of art school! But boy howdy, there is MUCH to learn about working with these paints that I didn't know back then.
3" X 4" in Watercolor on cold press watercolor paper
hey that's a great picture. i love cats and i was wondering how i could get better at drawing animals and well you seem to have a lot of experience with drawing animals so i was thinking you could give me some pointers.
Sure! Try taking a look at animal anatomy, like skeletal structure and musculature. Draw lots of studies of animals with their skin "off" like that, it really helps! By the time you're ready to draw animals with their skins "on" you'll know exactly how to structure them.
Dunno what you mean. I'd love to own a watercolor that came out with this quality! Watercolor can be a tricky devil, but I still say this looks like you have control on a level that sells right now.
I'm not really saying that the painting is bad, or not at an adequate level for commissioning, just that I'm personally not ready to use the medium in a paid environment because I'm still learning.
