Griffon - Avian Companion by Shadow-Wolf Griffon - Avian Companion by Shadow-Wolf
Commission for *botchiball! I actually finished this one a week or so ago while I was in Arizona visiting my dad, but I didn't have a scanner there, and when I got back to Colorado I forgot all about it! ><; Bad me. *slaps wrist*

This Griffon is a companion to a race called Avians. It is very intelligent and built a lot like a large heavy dog. Thi version of a Griffon cannot achieve true flight, but use their smaller wings and fan tail to glide. They have extra talons on each wing to help with climbing and manipulating objects when not in flight.

Had a ton of fun with the colour scheme of this one. Half dog half hawk colouring! Done with Markers, pencil (as in graphite) and a tad of acrylic paint.

this is not a gryphon. a gryphon is strictly a mix of feline and bird. period. this is a chimera.

This is fiction.

so your implying that gryphons are real? Gryphons are from lore and mythology. some people would say that, that is fiction. I don't agree I think it's something completely different from fiction or nonfiction.

Just saying it's all make believe dude, so there's no real reason to get up in arms about it.  Just a drawing, you know?  But also, this drawing is 6 years old, and arguing semantics on a looooong finished piece is not something I feel like doing.  ;)

I can understand that one yes. Lore and mythology says that all gryphons are a mix of bird and feline. most commonly they are eagle and lion. I just actually prefer when people draw something like this it is actually correct to the nature of the lore. I can't blame ya for being creative though.

In this instance it was a commission, so I don't have control over what the client wants.  But I do have to say, I prefer variations on the lore myself anyway, so as to not sound like I'm passing the blame to the client!  I get wanting to see something that's accurate to the original though.  If I ever do make an attempt as a lore-accurate gryphon, I promise to do my research first!  =)

Well at least you agree. Although when it comes to commissions you give them what their paying for... so
