The october muse struck me hard when I started this drawing, what started out as a regular owl turned into an owl wraith stalking the forest at night.

This is my first big attempt at digital art, scanning lineart and colouring it all in with photoshop. Since I know shit about using different brushes, and I was too impatient to learn how to use the tablet I has borrowed while working on this, this piece is somewhat limited. But with a sore wrist and plenty of time and advice, I think I did a pretty good job for my first reall try. I learned a lot about lighting and which order to paint things in while doing this. I have to thank Sabarika, Bastek, Ultraviolet Bat and Becky (methinks you know which Becky you are) for helping me out the most. I think without them this picture would look really different.

And yes, I painted over a photo of the moon to make it look more... moony. Any suggestions or critiques anyone has are welcome, and prints are available of this right now!

[edit] Wow, thanks everyone, it's so cool this made daily deviation! Thank you! Hehe, so far I've gotten owl from "secret of nimh" comparisons ( [link] ), mothman ( [link] ), owlbear from D&D ( [link] ) and moonkin from WoW ( [link] ), a couple of "Rock-a-Doodle" references, and a were-owl (close to what I was thinking too). This is pretty cool, thanks again everyone! And prints are available of this piece, just inquire. Sorry I'm not using DA prints for my art printing needs, that's why you don't see 'print available' here.
