Well, DeviantArt has finally done it. Finally you can change your user name without loosing all your page stats or reuploading everything to a new gallery!
I've been wanting to change my account name to Eskiworks for a long time now. The only thing getting in my way is that I already created an account under that name to reserve it. Under their current rules (and I imagine this is more a technical issue rather than an artificial rule) I can't use that name. Not even if I deactivate the account, and not even if I change it to something else before using the name. I even sent a trouble ticket to be absolutely sure, because the FAQ on name changes didn't specifically mention some of the things I wanted to try. The response was pretty conclusive: once an account name exists in the database, it can not EVER be used by anyone else, under any circumstances.
So, in the knowledge that "Eskiworks" is still off limits to me, I've gone ahead and simply changed the capitalization of my current account name. While it would be nice to unify my online presence under a single alias, I still like my DA account name and can wait patiently until they figure out a solution for people like me.
In the mean time I'll try to keep up with who is who, and hope everyone who can change their name is happy with the change!
 - Several folks have suggested I simply alter Eskiworks in some manner to be able to use it, however I'm not content doing so. I prefer to use the name as I intended it to look, and not mangle it for technicality's sake.
